Old Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati to close

The historic Old Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati is set to undergo scheduled maintenance, prompting a temporary closure for a few days, officials confirmed. The district administration is currently in discussions with officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to finalize the timeline, which is expected to span four to five days.

The closure is deemed essential to ensure the structural safety and long-term durability of the bridge, which plays a crucial role in connecting the city across the Brahmaputra River.

A railway official stated, “The district administration has spoken with us on the matter and the dates are yet to be decided. However, this will not affect rail services in the area.”

Further announcements, including specific dates and traffic diversions, are expected soon. Commuters are advised to stay updated through official channels and plan accordingly. Moreover, during the period, commuters have been urged to cooperate with the administration and plan their journey accordingly.
