Heavy rain caused flooding, evacuations, and disruptions

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days caused widespread flooding in residential areas surrounding Ana Sagar Lake, forcing emergency evacuations and disrupting daily life in the city on Saturday. Schools remained closed for the second consecutive day as a precautionary measure.

The district administration, supported by rescue teams and civil defence personnel, launched boat operations to evacuate stranded residents from their homes. The situation worsened as Ana Sagar Lake exceeded its capacity of 13 feet, reaching a dangerous level of 15 feet and 11 inches due to continuous inflow from Varuna Sagar Lake (formerly Foy Sagar) and Badi River.
