Ripun Bora blames government for compromising state interests.

Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led Assam government, accusing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of betraying indigenous communities and surrendering state interests to corporate giants. Bora unveiled a list of 30 documented allegations showcasing what he termed as a “systematic sell-out of Assam’s land and dignity.”

At a press conference here today, Bora cited multiple instances of eviction drives. He recalled the 2017 Amchang eviction during CM Sarbananda Sonowal’s tenure, in which over 1,000 Mishing, Bodo, and Karbi families were displaced and one indigenous woman was reportedly shot dead. Under CM Sarma’s leadership, he claimed, eviction drives in Panjabari, Guwahati, and other regions like Silsaako, Goalpara, and Rampur were equally violent, displacing thousands of native families.

Bora alleged that vast tracts of land—over 50,000 bighas—have been transferred to private entities, including Adani, Reliance, Azure Solar, and Patanjali. These include land in Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Tinsukia, Dhubri, and Kokrajhar.

He also cited the deaths of indigenous youths like Mintu Deori during the AIIMS protest and others during anti-CAA demonstrations as evidence of state brutality. Bora criticized the BJP for vilifying evictees as "suspected Bangladeshis" despite the majority being indigenous.

Beyond land issues, Bora highlighted political, social, and economic marginalization. He accused the government of undermining tribal leadership, cutting funds for Autonomous and Development Councils, and reducing scholarships and budgetary allocations for SC, ST, and OBC communities.
