According to a top official, the West Bengal government has declared an emergency in response to predictions of significant rains starting on October 1.
According to him, officials have also received directives in this respect from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee."After assessing the issue, we have taken extensive emergency action. Every department involved has been placed on alert.
The official told PTI on Sunday that the CM is keeping a close eye on the issue.
The recent electrocution episodes in the city and surrounding areas, along with the heavy rain, claimed the lives of twelve people.
According to him, a senior IAS officer will be stationed in the control room that the government has already put up.
"There will be constant observation. According to the official, the control room will continue to function during the holiday season from September 26 to October 7, October 20–24, and October 27–28.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low pressure system is expected to emerge in the Bay of Bengal, causing isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in most areas of West Bengal between October 2 and 4.
Additionally, it forecasted squally winds that would reach 35–45 kmph with gusts up to 55 kmph in certain locations throughout that time.
"It's likely that the sea will be rough. In a bulletin, the IMD warned fishermen not to go out to sea on these two days over the north and central Bay of Bengal, as well as off the shores of West Bengal and Odisha.
