In the run up to the assembly elections, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asserted on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party now views Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar as a "burden".
Speaking at a press conference following the Congress Working Committee in Patna, Kharge claimed that the BJP had "mentally retired" Nitish and that internal strife within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was not publicly visible."Now, the internal strife inside the NDA alliance is publicly visible. Nitish Kumar has been mentally retired by the BJP, which now views him as a burden, Kharge claimed.
Kharge added that people in Bihar desire a clear caste census because 80% of the population falls under the OBC, EBC, and SC/ST categories.
Eighty percent of people in Bihar are OBC, EBC, SC, and ST, and the populace wants caste census and reservation policy to be transparent.
The national government has been cornered by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party, forcing it to carry out a caste census," he continued.
The president of the Congress also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made repeated pledges to revitalise the sugar industry in Bihar.
This occurred during the first Congress Working Committee meeting in Bihar following independence, which was attended by key Congress officials in Patna.
In order to increase pressure on the BJP over alleged "vote chori" (vote theft), the Congress called a meeting of its Working Committee to discuss the assembly election strategy.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders, party chief ministers, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, and permanent and special invitees attended the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting.
Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, treasurer Ajay Maken, general secretaries KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, and Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar were among the top Congress leaders present at the meeting.
The Congress led opposition INDIA group was criticised by the BJP in the meantime.
Two posters that suggested a disagreement within the bloc about seat sharing before to the assembly elections were produced by the Bihar BJP ahead of the CWC meeting.
