Residents demand that the Guwahati police remove the Durga Puja pandal that is blocking the road

Concerned citizens from Krishna Nagar and the surrounding regions have petitioned the Commissioner of Police in Guwahati to have a Durga Puja pandal removed from the main route between Krishna Nagar and Amiya Nagar, which is located under the jurisdiction of Chandmari Police Station.

Some vested interests are allegedly trying to plan a new Durga Puja celebration by blocking the busy road, which is a vital thoroughfare for hundreds of people in Krishna Nagar, Rudranagar, and Amiya Nagar, according to a memorandum signed by 40 locals and submitted to the Commissioner.

They emphasised that the road is essential for everyday commuters and should never be blocked.

According to the locals, closing the road might make traffic jams worse and increase the likelihood of major events like fires, landslides, or water pipeline breaches.

Being one of the routes that will lead to the Jal Board tank at the top of the hill, this road is also quite important.

"We oppose closing public highways in the name of Durga Puja, but we are not opposed to its organisation.

Festivals ought to be held in appropriate locations that don't inconvenience the public, the representation said.

The locals asked that the pavilion be taken down right away and that no public roads or walkways be used for puja related events.
