Turkey is ending extra tariffs on some US imports

Amid President Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the United States, Turkey announced Monday that it has lifted further tariffs imposed in 2018 on US imports, which range from fruits to passenger cars, according to the country's Official Gazette.

Erdogan was scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump on Thursday after attending the UN General Assembly this week.

Previously, passenger automobiles, fruits, rice, tobacco, certain alcoholic beverages, certain solid fuels, and certain chemical products were all subject to additional taxes.

In response to US tariffs imposed by Trump during his first term in office, those duties were implemented in 2018.
