Gaurav Gogoi accuses CM of aiding Shyamkanu Mahanta in Zubeen Garg probe

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma came under heavy fire from Gaurav Gogoi, the head of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), on Tuesday for allegedly sabotaging the inquiry into the murder of cultural icon Zubeen Garg.

Gogoi claimed that the BJP led government's priorities have changed from finding the truth to defending Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF).

It's becoming evident from their conversation that the government's goal is no longer to provide Zubeen Garg with justice.

Rather, it seems to be about safeguarding Shyamkanu Mahanta. Speaking to the media, Gogoi stated, "We need an investigation that shows the truth about Zubeen Garg's death, not a probe into anyone's character."

Despite numerous leads indicating important areas in Singapore, Gogoi voiced worry that the state government has not attempted to communicate with local authorities.

The investigation need to have included the hotel where Zubeen slept, the spot he went to with his associate, the yacht, and the place where he was later taken. Rather, the inquiry is being redirected into irrelevant directions," Gogoi continued.

Gogoi further claimed that Chief Minister Sarma was trying to give Mahanta a "clean chit," implying that the two had a history of intimate relationships.

The Chief Minister is clearly on a mission to "save Shyamkanu Mahanta." His strong bond with Mahanta's family appears to be affecting his position, Gogoi asserted.

The Jorhat MP continued, "As a Chief Minister, the statements he is making to defend Mahanta are completely out of place and seriously undermine the integrity of the investigation."

Sarma said earlier in the day that Mahanta and Gogoi are more closely related.

One of Assam's most cherished cultural icons, Garg, passed away, and his passing continues to spark political upheaval and emotional outbursts throughout the state.
