Pharma companies announce direct sales and price cuts in the US

Following President Donald Trump's efforts to lower prescription prices and eliminate "middlemen" like pharmacies, insurers, and pharmacy benefit managers, a number of pharmaceutical companies have announced that they will sell drugs directly to consumers in the United States and have provided discounts.

In September, the Trump administration declared that it will begin lowering prescription drug costs in early 2026 through a government run website dubbed TrumpRx.gov.

Currently, Americans spend significantly more for prescription drugs than patients in other affluent countries, frequently by over three times.

In July, Trump wrote to 17 large corporations, urging them to lower the cost of prescription drugs in the United States.

An alphabetical list of pharmaceutical businesses that recently announced price reductions and direct to consumer sales in the United States is provided below:

ABBVIE In response to Trump's demands that pharmaceutical companies provide the US with "most favored nation" pricing, AbbVie announced in September that it will introduce its ovarian cancer medication Elahere in the UK at a list price that matched that in the U.S.

ZENECA ASTRA On October 10, AstraZeneca and the Trump administration reached an agreement wherein the Anglo Swedish firm will provide the government's Medicaid plan with a discounted price on some medications in exchange for three years of tariff relief.

According to CEO Pascal Soriot at the Oval Office, the agreement also calls for up to 80% savings on some of AstraZeneca's medications that will be offered for sale on the TrumpRx website.

BRISTOL MYERS SQUIBB The US pharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb said in September that it would lower the cost of the blood clot treatment Eliquis and the medication Sotyktu for plaque psoriasis for qualified US patients.

The latter would be given a price reduction of more than 80% off the list price.

ELI LILLY Eli Lilly announced in June that it will begin shipping the two highest dosages of Zepbound, a well known medication for weight reduction, to consumers who paid with cash on its website in early August.
