Union Minister Piyush Goyal and former UK PM Sunak discuss enhancing economic ties

On Thursday, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the economic ties between India and the UK.

On Thursday, Goyal posted on X, saying, "It was a pleasure to meet former UK Prime Minister @RishiSunak and exchange views on further strengthening the India-UK economic partnership."

In New Delhi on Thursday, Party National President and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda met with former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as part of the 'Know BJP' campaign, according to a BJP news release.

Nadda welcomed Sunak to India and stated that his time as prime minister has given India-UK ties a fresh lease on life and vitality. He valued Sunak's initiative in pushing the India-UK Free Trade Agreement talks further.

The press release claims that JP Nadda discussed the BJP's organizational prowess and its people centered approach to political participation and administration.

In order to improve global awareness, promote idea sharing, and fortify relationships with political parties and leaders worldwide, he emphasized the 'Know BJP' campaign.

He emphasized how, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direction, technological advancements in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are improving healthcare delivery in India at the local level.

He also sent Rishi Sunak and his family his warmest Diwali greetings.

His visit follows UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to India, which ended on October 9 with a detailed list of 12 important outcomes.

The reformed India-UK CEO Forum held its first meeting in London and New Delhi during Starmer's visit. In order to facilitate the implementation of the CETA and promote economic expansion and job creation in both nations, they also decided to reestablish the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO).

India and the UK continue to dominate the world in financial technology (fintech), according to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as commerce and services between the two countries have more than doubled in the last four years.

"The trade agreement between India and the UK provides a launchpad to advance fintech partnerships further," Starmer said while speaking at the Global Fintech Fest at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai.

In the hopes that Britain would emerge as India's preferred financial and fintech partner, he invited Indian businesses to do business with the UK.
