Even as the overall market cooled, sales of iPhones in China increased 22% over year earlier levels in the first month following the release of the iPhone 17 series, according to a private study released on Friday.
According to statistics from research firm Counterpoint, the new lineup drove the majority of Apple's smartphone sales in China starting on September 19. The 17 series accounted for approximately four fifths of units sold to consumers.
The first month following the September 2024 debut of the iPhone 16 range saw a 5% decline in iPhone sales in China.
Hundreds of people flocked to Apple's Beijing headquarters on the day of the iPhone 17 announcement, demonstrating the brand's enduring popularity despite growing competition from Xiaomi and Huawei.
According to Counterpoint, third quarter sales of smartphones in China were down 2.7% year over year due to muted consumer demand.
