Assam CM announces Visa Centre in Guwahati

The "long journey" to Delhi or Mumbai for visa biometrics will soon be "history," according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has hailed a historic development for foreign visitors.

The move comes after an in principle deal to establish a special visa facilitation center in Guwahati with VFS Global, a top provider of technological services and visa outsourcing.

The Chief Minister's declaration, which was made via a social media post, tackles a persistent logistical issue that residents in the Northeast encounter.

Up until now, applicants who needed biometric enrolment for visas to several countries had to make expensive and time consuming excursions to major cities; this burden was especially felt by tourists, professionals, and students.

"Going overseas? Do you need to provide biometrics in order to apply for a visa? CM Sarma writes, "That meant a lengthy trip to either Delhi or Mumbai." "This will soon become history for our people in Assam and the Northeast."

"Happy to share that @VFSGlobal has agreed in principle to set up a dedicated visa facilitation center for over 60+ countries in Guwahati," he said, expressing his happiness with the move.

It is anticipated that the proposed center will expedite the visa application process for several locations, thereby cutting down on the time and money needed to prepare for overseas travel.

The Chief Minister stated that more information would be released shortly, although specifics are still pending. "More information, including opening dates and the nations for which visa applications can be submitted in Guwahati, will be shared shortly. "Do stay tuned," he continued.
