Assam govt launches Asom Mala 3.0 and new FIFA standard stadium.

Under the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Cabinet adopted a number of significant policy and infrastructure initiatives on Thursday that are intended to improve connectivity, encourage sports, protect riverbanks, and reinforce family values among state government workers.

The Cabinet authorized the implementation of Asom Mala 3.0 with a budget of Rs 3,217 crore, which will significantly improve road infrastructure. The project aims to build 36 new bridges across 34 districts and create an 883 km high speed transportation corridor.

The project seeks to strengthen ties between rural and urban areas, promote economic activity, and increase regional connectivity.

Another significant move was the Cabinet's administrative approval of Rs 765 crore for the renovation of Guwahati's historic R.G. Baruah Sports Complex. With a 25,000 seat FIFA Category 2 stadium, the project aims to turn the location into a top notch multi sport arena.

The action is in line with the government's long term goal of establishing Assam as a dominant force in sports and a top choice for both domestic and international tournaments.

In order to address persistent issues with erosion and floods, the Cabinet also authorized a Community Led Riverbank Protection Policy.

In order to ensure quicker execution and more community involvement, the strategy places a strong focus on voluntary land relinquishment for embankment and protection projects.

In addition, the Cabinet approved the distribution of hard copies and soft copies of the Tribhuvan Prasad Tewary Commission's 1983 report on Assam disturbances during the next Assam Legislative Assembly session.

Under the Matri Pitri Vandana initiative, the Cabinet approved special casual leave for state government employees to foster cultural values and family ties.

Workers will be encouraged to spend quality time with parents and elders by being able to take the leave between July 9 and 12 or July 23 and 26, 2026.

According to Chief Minister Sarma, the Cabinet's choices demonstrate the state government's dedication to modernising infrastructure, fostering community and family relations, and promoting holistic development.
