The government of Assam has made the decision to petition the UN to declare the classic song "Manuhe Manuhor Babe" by Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika the "Anthem of Humanity."
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the state in honoring the Bard of the Brahmaputra with lavish tributes on the 14th anniversary of his death during the "shraddhanjali" program at the Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha here on Wednesday.
He declared, "Manuhe Manuhor Babe is not just Assam's treasure; it belongs to humanity." Sarma stated, "The state government has decided to submit a formal request to the United Nations for this recognition, and is working to get the song recognized as the Anthem of Humanity."
"Assam will succeed in securing recognition of 'Manuhe Manuhor Babe' as the Anthem of Humanity in the coming days, just as the current government succeeded in obtaining UNESCO World Heritage status for the Charaideo Maidam and Classical Language status for Assamese," he stated at the event hosted by the state cultural affairs department.
The famous song was performed in synchrony by a human chain throughout the occasion. The chief minister joined the chant and gave the music icon his sincere homage.
Sarma expressed his feelings on the occasion by saying that special homage programs were held in all 35 districts and 27 sub divisions of the state in accordance with the occasion.
Thousands of students, young people, and citizens participated in human chains and collectively voiced their support for "Manuhe Manuhor Babe." Approximately two lakh performers and residents from the state's Barak and Brahmaputra valleys attended the event to show their respect.
The chief minister stated that efforts have been made to set aside at least one evening for Bhupen Hazarika's remembrance at the Rongali Bihu celebrations.
He declared, "The government has decided to give Bihu committees additional grants for organising such dedicated evenings, celebrating Hazarika's rich legacy."
