Drone strike on Chinese workers in Tajikistan strains ties between China and Pakistan

Following the Friday deaths of three Chinese nationals in Tajikistan by drones operating from close to the Af-Pak border, tensions between China and Pakistan have increased.

Following claims that the drones may have been flown by the Pakistani military or its proxies and entered Tajikistan through Afghan airspace, China has opened an investigation.

Pakistan's potential involvement in the attack is also being investigated by Russia. The incident took place in Tajikistan, where the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan is guarded by Russian forces.

Moscow and Dushanbe have close political and security connections, and President Vladimir Putin recently paid a visit to the nation.

Pakistan swiftly used the incident to criticize the Taliban government in Kabul, but Kabul and Dushanbe avoided placing blame on one another. According to sources, as bilateral relations deteriorate, Islamabad is attempting to defame Kabul.
