Nitish Kumar hands home to BJP's deputy CM

For the first time in his twenty years in office, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave over the home portfolio to the BJP. In exchange, his party, JDU, gained control over finance, which the BJP had previously held.

Few people understood the significance of deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary being given charge of home, despite the fact that it might seem like a typical ministry swap between allies.

The department is regarded as politically crucial because it controls police, intelligence, and general law and order, which is why chief ministers in the majority of states keep the portfolio to themselves.

This is also a significant gain for Choudhary and places him in a higher weight category compared to his party colleague and fellow deputy chief minister, Vijay Sinha, who holds departments for geology, mining, and revenue and land reforms.
