Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was directly challenged by State Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi on Monday to release the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report related to Sarma's previous accusation that he had "connections with Pakistan."
Speaking at a press conference in Hamren, Karbi Anglong, Gogoi emphasized that the Chief Minister had neglected to disclose information about his purported "Pakistan links" by September 10.
"We are not criminals; we are public representatives. Instead of hiding behind legal justifications, the Chief Minister must address the accusations in front of the public. Let the report be made public if the SIT has finished its investigation."If there is proof, I'm in Assam right now; show it and do something about it," he declared.
The Jorhat MP's comments follow Sarma's earlier in the day remarks in Sonitpur, where he referred to the head of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) as a "100% Pakistan agent."
Nothing will change even if we reveal the results in January. I'll do it the following day if the enemy party requests it on the tenth. "I refuse to work in accordance with our adversary," Sarma declared in Jamugurihat.
Gogoi reacted angrily, accusing the Chief Minister of "selective truth telling" and "political theatrics." "He has not been honest regarding Zubeen Garg's passing. He now refers to it as murder without providing any justification. He declared, "The people of Assam deserve clarity, not drama."
Gogoi shifted his criticism to the performance of the government, accusing Sarma of "monarchic rule" in Karbi Anglong and "protecting the interests of a few close to power." He claimed that progress in the hill district has stagnated while the wealth of BJP officials increased.
Additionally, he criticized the government for its "total failure" to promote industrial growth. Gogoi added, "For this government, industry means Tata, Ambani, and Adani.
The tea industry is collapsing, bamboo cultivation is neglected, and Sarthebari's bell metal trade is dying." "The people of Assam will overthrow the rule of Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tuliram Ronghang in 2026," Gogoi declared as he concluded his speech, adding that the Congress would continue its battle against the BJP's "intimidation politics."
