Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, made the announcement via a post on social media site X, characterizing the memorial as a representation of bravery and sacrifice.
According to him, the Prime Minister would pay a visit to the location on Sunday in remembrance of the "Bir Swahids" who gave their life during the six-year campaign.
Prior to the visit, the Chief Minister also conveyed the thoughts of a family member of a martyr. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on December 20 and 21, according to an official press release. He will pay respects at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, on December 21 at approximately 9:45 a.m.
A video message from a relative of Assam Movement martyr Bedela Bordoloi from Dharamtul in the Morigaon district was included in the Chief Minister's tweet.
The family member thanked the Prime Minister and the BJP-led administration in the video for acknowledging the martyrs' sacrifices.
He complimented the government for building the memorial in Boragaon to preserve the movement's memory and emphasized that each martyr's family received financial support of Rs 5 lakh.
On December 20, the Prime Minister will arrive in Guwahati at approximately 3 p.m. to begin his tour to Assam. He will speak at a public event and open the recently built terminal building at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport.
Prime Minister Modi will visit Namrup in the Dibrugarh district on December 21 after paying respects at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra.
There, he will lay the foundation stone for the Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited's new ammonia-urea fertilizer project. At the event, he will also speak to a group of people.
Assam's aviation infrastructure has significantly improved with the opening of the airport terminal. Upgraded runways, aprons, taxiways, and airfield infrastructure support the integrated terminal, which spans roughly 1.4 lakh square meters and can accommodate up to 1.3 crore passengers annually.
The building, which was inspired by Assam's biodiversity and cultural legacy, is India's first airport terminal with a natural theme. The terminal, which was constructed with the theme "Bamboo Orchids," features over 140 metric tonnes of locally obtained bamboo, green landscapes inspired by Kaziranga, japi motifs, rhino symbols, and orchid-shaped columns that mirror the Kopou flower.
Upon arrival, passengers may enjoy an immersive natural experience in a unique "Sky Forest" with around one lakh native plants.
With cutting-edge innovations like full-body scanners, contactless travel facilitated by DigiYatra, automated baggage handling, expedited immigration, and AI-powered airport operations, the terminal also raises the bar for passenger convenience.
The purpose of the Prime Minister's visit to the Swahid Smarak Kshetra is to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement, which aimed to remove illegal foreigners and preserve Assamese identity.
Prime Minister Modi will conduct the bhoomi pujan for a brownfield ammonia-urea fertilizer project in Namrup later in the day.
This project is situated on the current Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited property. With an expected expenditure of more than Rs 10,600 crore, the project seeks to minimize reliance on imports, create jobs, increase regional economic growth, and meet the fertilizer needs of Assam and neighboring states.
