As Zelenskyy develops a fresh 20-point peace plan, US President Donald Trump has stated that any potential peace deal between Ukraine and Russia will require his approval, according to Politico.
Zelenskyy and Trump are scheduled to meet in Florida this Sunday. "He doesn't have anything until I approve it," Trump stated during an interview. "So we'll see what he's got."
On Sunday, Zelenskyy and Trump are scheduled to meet in Florida. In an effort to put an end to the nearly four-year conflict with Russia, he has said that he will offer a fresh 20-point peace proposal.
Zelenskyy stated on Friday that the peace plan put forth by US and Ukrainian authorities is 90% complete. A demilitarized zone and talks on US security guarantees are apparently included in the proposal.
Trump, meantime, is optimistic about the forthcoming summit with leaders to put an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. "I believe things will work out well with him.
"I think it's going to go well with Putin," Trump declared, adding that he intends to talk to the Russian leader "soon, as much as I want."
Trump's remarks were made the day after Zelenskyy met with Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law, and Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy.
Later on, Zelenskyy called that exchange a "good conversation." Additionally, Trump announced that Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, will be paying him a visit at approximately the same time.
Zelenskyy and Bibi are on their way. They're all on their way. They all show up," Trump declared. "They respect our country again." Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump will go beyond security assurances, according to Ukrainian officials.
According to Politico, the future administration of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and Russia's claim to rule the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine are important topics on the agenda.
Zelenskyy had earlier warned reporters that although the conference would advance peace negotiations, no quick breakthrough should be anticipated.
He indicated that both parties will concentrate on finding solutions to as many outstanding problems as they could. Additionally, he stated that the proposed peace framework created by US and Ukrainian authorities is nearly finished.
Additionally, he emphasized that talks with Trump will center on long-term security assurances for Ukraine and how foreign allies could support post-war stability.
Zelenskyy claimed that high-level negotiations had already been reached in a post on X. "We have decided to meet with President Trump at the highest level in the near future. Before the New Year, several decisions can be made.
