Assam Chief Secretary reviews PM Modi's visit to Kaliabor

In order to evaluate readiness for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned visit to Kaliabor in the Nagaon district on January 18, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota convened a review meeting on Saturday, January 10, 2026, according to officials.

On January 17, the Prime Minister is expected to make a two day visit to the State. The next day, he will travel to Kaliabor to lay the foundation stone for the ₹6,957 crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor after seeing the Bodo folk dance Bagrumba at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Stadium.

In addition, he will speak at a public gathering in Kaliabor and virtually launch two Amrit Bharat Express trains. Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota @CSAssam_ examined readiness for the Hon'ble Prime Minister's planned visit to Kaliabor on January 18 on behalf of the HCM-led Government of Assam.

The Chief Minister's Office stated in a post on social media platform X that plans were evaluated for the virtual flagging off of two Amrit Bharat Express trains and the foundation stone laying of the ₹6,957 crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, with a focus on inter departmental coordination for a smooth and dignified program.

In a different post on X, the Chief Secretary's Office stated that a review meeting was held to "assess preparedness for the proposed visit of the Hon'ble Prime Minister to Kaliabor on 18 January" and that plans for important program elements that were slated for the public meeting were examined. The foundation stone laying will be followed by an audio-visual presentation that highlights the project's key characteristics.

Mr. Kota noted that the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, which consists of about 34.45 km of elevated wildlife-friendly corridors and bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat, is a part of the four-laning of the Kaliabor-Numaligarh stretch of NH-37 (New NH-715).

With the dual goals of enhancing connectivity between central and upper Assam and guaranteeing the preservation of the rich biodiversity of Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the project has been designed in accordance with court orders and the Wildlife Institute of India's recommendations.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited will carry out the corridor's implementation. The project will take 36 months to complete.

The Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and Kamakhya-Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express trains will also be virtually flagged off as part of the ceremony.

In addition to cutting travel times and offering contemporary passenger amenities, these trains are anticipated to improve long-distance rail connectivity between Assam and states like West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana while promoting tourist and economic activity throughout the areas they serve.

The Chief Secretary emphasized the significance of prompt completion of all plans and close interdepartmental collaboration in order to guarantee the program's seamless, orderly, and dignified execution in compliance with established norms.
