Dhami initiates CBI probe into resort murder case

According to Kautilya Singh, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami suggested on Friday that the CBI look into the "mystery VIP" involved in the 2022 killing of a 19 year old receptionist at a Rishikesh resort owned by the son of a BJP official.

The decision was made two days after the chief minister met with the victim's parents, who had given him a letter requesting a CBI investigation overseen by a Supreme Court judge, and after days of protests on the matter by a number of civic organizations and the opposition Congress. The girl's father claimed in the letter that a "VIP" whose identity is still unknown was responsible for his daughter's murder.

The parents reaffirmed their demand a day later, saying they "won't rest" until they "find out about the VIP". CM Pushkar Singh Dhami made the announcement, saying, "Our goal has been to ensure justice in a fair, transparent, and sensitive manner from the very beginning, and that commitment will continue."

We had given the victim's parents our word that the investigation they recommended would be carried out." Actor Urmila Sanawar of Haridwar allegedly shared audio and video files last month that apparently showed former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore advising her about a "VIP" who he claimed was BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam.

"By recommending a CBI probe, the government has acknowledged that there were flaws in the initial probe," stated State Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal. Congress and the people have won this.

We insist that a Supreme Court or high court judge oversee the investigation. Mahendra Bhatt, the leader of the state BJP, praised the ruling, saying it will "expose the opposition's lies" and that it was in accordance with public opinion.
