According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 occurred on Wednesday 68 kilometers (42 miles) east of Baculin, Philippines, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).
According to the Philippine seismology organization Phivolcs, the offshore tremor was predicted to cause damage and aftershocks.
There were no early reports of earthquake-related damage or injuries. Joey Monato, the local police commander of the southern town of Hinatuan in the province of Surigao del Sur, stated, "It was not that strong, but people rushed outside."
