Rubio and Netanyahu talked over the phone on Saturday

According to a U.S. official, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, but no further information was provided.

Axios previously claimed that the two addressed Gaza, Syria, and the Iranian protests, although the American official did not specify the subjects of the conversation.

The largest anti-government protests in years are taking place in Iran, which fought Israel for 12 days last year and had its nuclear facilities bombed by the United States in June.

Since it started in October, a precarious truce in Gaza has not advanced past its initial stages, with Israel and Hamas accusing one another of serious violations of the agreement.

Regarding the more challenging steps planned for the following phase, the two sides are still far apart. During U.S.-mediated negotiations in Paris earlier this week, Israel and Syria decided to establish a communication system to coordinate on security and business matters.

While Trump visited Israel in October, Netanyahu has made five trips to the United States to speak with the Republican president since Trump took office in January 2025.
