Assam Bodoland Territorial Council election Vote counting commences

Under strict security, the Bodoland Territorial Council's (BTC) fifth general election vote count started at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Twelve of the 40 seats in the BTC are in the Kokrajhar district. In these 12 constituencies, elections were run by 100 candidates.

Of these, one candidate ran from Parbatjhora, forty three from Kokrajhar, and forty eight from Gossaigaon.

This time around, 316 candidates ran in five districts under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR): Kokrajhar, Chirang, Udalguri, Baksa, and Tamulpur.

On September 22, the BTC elections polling was held. As the incumbent Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro, President of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), is up against the Assamese ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the lead up to the elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hosted a number of election campaign rallies in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

"This election will ensure a new journey in the Bodoland Territorial Region," Chief Minister Sarma stated when the BJP unveiled its manifesto.

The Sankalp Patra for the Bitcoin election has been made public by the BJP.

Every plan will be put into action in the BTR area. The Nijut Moina Scheme would provide benefits to BTR girls, while the Assam Orunodoi Scheme and Mahila Udyamita Scheme will cover five lakh BTR women.

The BJP will endeavour to grant the residents of BTR land rights and constitutional protections.

After years of warfare, Pramod Boro has insisted that their government has brought peace to the BTR.

The BJP and the UPPL had partnered to form the Bodoland Territorial Council government in the last BTC elections.

This election was also fought by Congress, the Bodoland People's Party (BPF), led by Hagrama Mohilary, and other regional parties.

Thirty of the 40 council seats are set aside for Scheduled Tribes (ST), five are set aside for non STs, and the remaining five are left unreserved.
There are 26.58 lakh voters in the BTC constituency.

The Assam State Election Commission reports that there are 3279 polling places spread over the 40 constituencies.
