As the ballots are counted on Friday, all eyes will be on the Assam Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election.

Postal ballots were counted first in the BTC election, which was polled on September 22. The counting procedure started at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Eight locations in five districts and three co district headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Region are participating in the counting, officials informed news agency PTI.

The five districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, and Tamulpur are within the 40member council's competence.

Prominent contenders in the race include previous council leader Hagrama Mohilary, who is running from Debargaon and Chirangduar, and incumbent BTC chief Pramod Boro, who is running from the two constituencies of Dotma and Goibari.

The UPPL is in the lead with around 7,000 votes in the Mushalpur constituency.

However, in the Koklabari constituency, the BJP is in the lead. Over 5,400 votes have been cast for the BJP in the Koklabari seat.

"BPF maintains its lead with 19 seats at noon; BJP and UPPL at nine each"

According to reports, the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) is winning 19 seats and controlling the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

The Sentinel, the local media outlet, reports that Congress has not yet made any headway and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) are deadlocked at nine seats each.
Together, independent candidates and minor groups have won one seat.

The outgoing council was led by alliance partners Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), BJP, and United Peoples' Party Liberal (UPPL).

Following the signing of a new Bodo Accord in New Delhi on January 27, 2020, this is the second council election.

The Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF), which had led the council for the previous three terms, emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats, the Congress secured one seat with its elected member later joining the BJP, and the UPPL won 12 seats, the BJP nine, and the GSP one in the most recent council elections, which were held in December 2020.
