“PM Modi visited Manipur after two years. He got too late. Several women were assaulted. It’s after two complete years that he thought of coming to Manipur,” he said.

"Today is a red letter day in the history of Manipur. PM Modi gifted significant developmental projects worth thousands of crores.

He also inaugurated India's second largest bridge, which is taller than the Qutub Minar.

PM Modi was grandly welcomed in Manipur, and a large number of people came to his gathering.

This clearly shows that Manipur also desires peace," ANI quoted him saying.

"We are very happy that the Prime Minister visited Manipur. However, he should have visited a little earlier. Some people's lives can be saved if he visits sooner," Shailaja told ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam to launch and lay the foundation stone of infrastructure and industrial projects worth over Rs 18,530 crore.

He is scheduled to lay foundation stones at Darrang, address a public gathering, inaugurate the Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited and the Numaligarh Refinery Plant in Golaghat, and lay the foundation for a new polypropylene plant there.

PM Modi Saturday paid tribute to legendary singer and Bharat Ratna recipient Bhupen Hazarika during his birth centenary celebrations in Guwahati and said Bhupen da kept giving voice to the unity of India even during the difficult times when North East was “left to burn in the fire of violence and separatism.”

Congress dubbed PM Modi’s first visit to Manipur since it witnessed ethnic conflict two and half years ago as “tokenism” and a “grave insult to a wounded people”.

It called his failure to visit earlier as emblematic of lack of compassion in his politics and leadership, and asked him “where is your rajdharma”.
