Russia reacts to Trump's Putin let me down remark praising his role in Ukraine conflict

US President Donald Trump's "emotional" response to the stalled peace process in Ukraine is "completely understandable," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

Trump has frequently bemoaned the lack of progress in the negotiations, acknowledging that his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin led him to initially think that Ukraine would be simple to resolve.

According to RT, Trump stated of Putin on Thursday, "He's really let me down."

In response to questions over Trump's comments, Peskov highlighted Moscow's comprehension of the US president's dissatisfaction, pointing out that he personally participated in attempts to settle the Ukrainian conflict.

We presume that the United States and President Trump himself continue to have the political will and purpose to work towards a settlement in Ukraine.

Thus, it is understandable that President Trump feels strongly about this matter. "This makes perfect sense," Peskov said to reporters.

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, also addressed Trump's annoyance, saying Russia's Channel One that it is indicative of his pragmatic approach to politics.

"As he himself consistently emphasises, the US president is a man of action, deals, and business," Lavrov stated.

"President Trump's desire for speedy fixes helps to explain his expressions of disappointment. This might work in certain places, but it's improbable in others," he continued.

Trump has threatened to impose further penalties on Russia and shown his unhappiness with the stalling negotiations in recent weeks.

He emphasised that Washington's European allies must first cease purchasing Russian oil, but he also reaffirmed his willingness to impose further restrictions.

According to RT, Trump stated, "I'm willing to do other things, but not when the people that I'm fighting for are buying oil from Russia."
