The conference will be attended by Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R S.D., House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R La., according to news agency AP.
This comes after Trump unexpectedly cancelled a scheduled meeting with Democratic leaders on Thursday, citing Democratic demands as "unserious and ridiculous," at the behest of Johnson and Thune.
As the September 30 funding deadline draws near, the president has been under increasing pressure because Congress must approve a spending measure in order to avoid a shutdown on Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. (local time).
In a joint statement released Saturday night, Schumer and Jeffries stated, "President Trump has once again agreed to a meeting in the Oval Office."
"We are committed to addressing the Republican healthcare dilemma and preventing a government shutdown.
"Time is running out," it continued. According to AP, Democrats are insisting that important health care features, such as the restoration of Medicaid cuts from previous Republican legislation and an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies, be included in any short term financing plan.
Republicans have insisted on a simple seven week extension of current funding, rejecting these requirements as nonstarters.
GOP leaders have maintained that the emergency spending talks can be separated from debates over health care and other policy issues.
Johnson had earlier said that he had urged Trump to wait for Democratic leaders to "do the basic governing work of keeping the government open" before seeing them.
With the White House Office of Management and Budget directing federal agencies to create reduction in force plans in the event of a shutdown, tensions have increased in recent days.
