Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, criticised the national government, which is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Sunday for the violent protest that took place in Ladakh and resulted in the deaths of four people.
Rahul Gandhi blamed the violence on the BJP and the RSS, its ideological tutor, saying: "Ladakhis demanded a voice. In retaliation, the BJP imprisoned Sonam Wangchuk and killed four young men.
Two days after the demonstration calling for statehood and protection under the Sixth Schedule descended into violence, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken into custody on Friday.
"The BJP and RSS are attacking the incredible people, culture, and traditions of Ladakh.
Ladakhis requested to speak. In retaliation, the BJP imprisoned Sonam Wangchuk and killed four young men. Put an end to the murder.
Put an end to the violence. Put an end to the intimidation. Make Ladakh heard. Publish the Sixth Schedule for them," the Congress leader wrote on X.
Rahul's response follows a day after his silence about Wangchuk's detention under the strict National Security Act (NSA) was questioned by his ally, Arvind Kejriwal, of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, had earlier denounced the Center's "pathetic handling" of the crisis and Wangchuk's incarceration.
He called for a judicial investigation into the police firing that murdered four young people, as well as the quick restoration of Ladakh's institutions and democracy.
At 2:30 pm on Friday, the police team under the command of Ladakh DGP SD Singh Jamwal arrested Wangchuk.
He was relocated to Jodhpur, Rajasthan, from Ladakh. At 2:30 pm, Wangchuk was supposed to speak at a press conference in Leh.
Due to suspected infractions, the Union Home Ministry revoked his NGO's licence under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 on Thursday.
With allusions to the Gen Z uprising in Nepal and Arab Spring style rallies, the MHA blamed Wangchuk's "provocative" statements for Wednesday's mob violence and burning in Ladakh.
