Less than a day after the Assamese cultural icon's family filed a complaint connected to his death, members of Assam's Crime Investigation Department's (CID) Special Investigation Team paid a visit to Zubeen Garg's home in Kahilipara, Guwahati, on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
According to one member of the investigation team, they went to the late Garg's home to get his family members comments.The singer composer's family sent a complaint via email to the CID on Saturday evening, September 27, requesting a comprehensive investigation into the events that led to his drowning death in Singapore on September 19.
The late singer composer's sister Palme Borthakur, uncle Manoj Kumar Borthakur, and wife Garima Saikia Garg also signed the complaint.
We clearly named Siddharth Sharma and Shyamkanu Mahanta as the accused in the complaint, and we asked that they be looked into.
Additionally, we have asked that the entire group of people who were in the vicinity of Garg on that terrible day be included in the investigation," Mr. Borthakur stated.
Mr. Mahanta was the principal organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, while Mr. Sharma served as Garg's manager.
Despite his health issues, Garg was still expected to perform at the festival.
According to a CID officer, the family's complaint was being worked on by the probe team.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, meantime, stated that Mr. Mahanta has been given till October 6 to surrender, failing which the government will take severe measures against him. "All of his accounts have been frozen," he declared.
