Assam CM offers aid amid landslides in Darjeeling and Sikkim



On Monday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister, voiced his sorrow over the deaths caused by landslides in West Bengal's Darjeeling district and the extreme weather in Sikkim .

He also said that Assam would offer all the help required to handle the situation.

"We are extremely distressed by the devastation and loss of life in Darjeeling and elsewhere in North Bengal due to heavy rains," Sarma wrote in a post on his X Twitter.

Disaster management officials continued rescue efforts Monday, bringing the death toll from the deadly landslides in Darjeeling to 28.

Thousands of tourists are still stranded in cut off mountainous locations, and several persons are still missing.

"We are prepared to offer any assistance to the West Bengal government in rescue and relief efforts on behalf of the people of Assam," the chief minister continued.

In this time of difficulty, he added, the people of Assam "stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Sikkim."

Sarma said, tagging Sikkim chief minister PS Tamang Golay in his post, "The Government of Assam is committed to extending any possible assistance that is required to deal with ongoing floods and landslides."
