Assam para cyclist completes 7,000 km journey from Russia to Assam

Paracyclist Rakesh Banik from Kaliabor has defied all obstacles and inspired millions of people worldwide with his incredible tenacity and bravery in completing a historic 7,000 kilometer transcontinental cycling adventure from Russia to Assam.

After losing his right leg in a traffic accident years ago, Banik started his journey from Moscow in April and traveled across China, Tibet, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Nepal before arriving in Guwahati via Siliguri.

On social media, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora celebrated Banik's return to Assam, calling it a "truly extraordinary feat."

"He recently accomplished an incredible transcontinental cycling expedition from Russia to Assam, covering nearly 7,000 km a remarkable feat that has earned him a place in the record books and in the hearts of millions," Bora wrote, defying all conventional wisdom.

Bora went on to say that he had the honor of seeing Banik at his Janata Bhawan office, where he personally congratulated him and wished him luck in his future pursuits.

"His journey is a story of grit, determination, and inspiration that inspires us all to overcome obstacles not just about endurance, but about the unbreakable human spirit," Bora said.

In addition to being an endurance test, Banik's journey served as evidence of the human spirit's unbreakable strength.

Due to continuing geopolitical concerns, Banik was initially only given a 16 day visa for Russia

However, with perseverance and support from the Russian Consulate, he was able to obtain a 30 day extension, which allowed him to continue traveling over difficult terrain and harsh weather.

Cycling has evolved into much more than just a sport for Banik; it is now a source of tranquility, identity, and purpose.

He changed his last name to "para cyclist" after his accident, signifying his metamorphosis and victory over hardship.

Many record books are likely to acknowledge Banik's transcontinental voyage from the streets of Moscow to his native Assam.

More significantly, it has indelibly inscribed his name in the hearts of people who value unwavering perseverance and bravery.
