Rahul Gandhi at Zubeen Garg's Samadhi, demands transparent probe

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, paid a visit to the samadhi of the late Assamese music legend Zubeen Garg on Friday in Sonapur, which is outside of Guwahati.

Gandhi paid his respects with flowers at the location before visiting the late singer's home to meet Garg's family and offer his sympathies.

Gandhi discussed Garg's enduring legacy and his family's sorrow in remarks to the media following the visit. "I expressed to the family that I would have preferred to arrive in a more favorable situation," he stated.

Gandhi shared a personal memory, saying, "I would see Mount Kanchenjunga every day when I was 17 years old, while taking a mountaineering course in Sikkim.

It is honest, transparent, unshakable, and beautiful." I instantly sensed the link when Gaurav ji remarked that Zubeen ji claimed to be Kanchenjunga today. He was genuinely stable, honest, truthful, and attractive.

Gandhi praised Garg's family values and upbringing, saying, "I told Zubeen ji's father that his support and wisdom gave Assam a voice through his son." We appreciate what the family and Zubeen Garg have done for the entire nation, not just Assam.

"The family told me they only want the truth to come out," Gandhi continued, urging justice and honesty. It is the government's responsibility to conduct a prompt, open investigation and to accurately report the events in Singapore. We are prepared to assist them in whatever manner we can and share their sorrow. I stand with the people of Assam and offer my sympathies.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded to Gandhi's visit by saying it was "better late than never."

"Rahul Gandhi's visit comes 28 days after Zubeen Garg's death, but it is still better late than never," Sarma told reporters Thursday.

The initiative was hailed by the government, he added. We had anticipated that Priyanka Gandhi or another high-ranking Congress official would attend the cremation. However, we welcome Rahul Gandhi's visit as he has now come to pay respects," Sarma stated.

"No senior Congress leader came during Bhupen Hazarika's death," the Chief Minister added, drawing a parallel to a previous incident. Even though it took 28 days, at least someone showed up this time. Even if the clock in Congress is always running late, it's better late than never.
