Zubeen Garg death probe Assam SIT to meet Singapore police on Oct 21

As part of the ongoing investigation into the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Assam Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Additional Director General of Police Munna Gupta, is set to meet with Singapore Police on October 21.

The SIT team will visit Singapore the day before, on October 20, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's social media confirmation of the situation on Thursday.

"Justice for our darling Zubeen is one step closer. On October 21, the Assam Police delegation, headed by Sri Munna Gupta, ADGP and Head of SIT, would meet with the Singapore Police authorities. In accordance with that, our crew will depart for Singapore on October 20. "Justice for Zubeen will prevail our collective resolve remains," Sarma wrote.

Sarma made the declaration one day after meeting Singapore High Commissioner Alice Cheng and Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister told reporters after the meeting that Singapore had asked for the names of the officers and topics of discussion for the next meeting.

"Two officers from the Assam Police will be visiting the island nation shortly, as communicated to Singapore authorities by the Ministry of External Affairs," he said.

Sarma explained that international law does not permit a joint probe with Singapore.

Assuring that every attempt is being made for a comprehensive and open investigation into the artist's premature death, he noted that Singapore has offered full assistance to facilitate the inquiry.

At the request of the Assam government, the Ministry of Home Affairs had already invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore.

Singaporean authorities are required by the MLAT provisions to exchange case information, help investigations, and assist in court proceedings, including the extradition of accused parties if needed.
