Russia declared on Thursday that European countries decision to reinstate UN sanctions against Iran was unlawful and that it exacerbated the country's nuclear program dilemma.
The reimposition of sanctions, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova, was the consequence of "manipulation" by France, Germany, and Britain."Accordingly, the results are legally null and void and cannot impose any legal obligations on other states," she stated at a news conference.
The three European nations started a procedure known as snapback, which resulted in the United Nations reimposing sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program on September 27.
An arms embargo and prohibitions on all uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities, as well as any activity involving ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear weapons, will be imposed on Iran once more.
Tehran, which denies any plans to produce nuclear weapons, has threatened to retaliate harshly for the action.
The US and Israeli bombings of Iranian nuclear sites in June were denounced by Russia, which maintains close ties with Iran and supports its right to peaceful nuclear energy.
