Three soldiers wounded in grenade attack on Assam's Kakopathar camp.

Residents of Kakopathar in Assam's Tinsukia district were terrified late Thursday night after hearing loud gunshots and many grenade blasts. According to reports, the gunfight near the Kakopathar Army Camp lasted for about an hour.

Around midnight, grenades were thrown at the Indian Army's 19 Grenadiers unit camp near Kakopathar, according to preliminary reports. Three Army servicemen were hurt in the explosion, according to security sources.

The area has been blocked off by the Army and police in the wake of the incident, limiting civilian mobility in the vicinity. To find the criminals, search efforts are now in progress.

According to officials, a truck thought to have been used by the attackers was later discovered abandoned in the neighboring state of Arunachal Pradesh's Tengapani district.

To date, no group has taken credit for the incident. But since the ULFA (Independent) group has a track record of executing such attacks in Upper Assam, preliminary suspicion leans on them.
