Venkadesan S. reports that the DGCA has ordered an investigation into the mid air safety scare that shook 74 passengers on an Indigo ATR flight from Madurai to Chennai after pilots saw cracks on the cockpit windshield just before landing Friday night.
Another plane was scheduled to make the trip after the flight, which was supposed to proceed to Kozhikode early on Saturday, was canceled.While in the air, pilots spotted the cracks and promptly notified air traffic control.
The Chennai airport was placed on standby, with rescue and fire crews ready to respond to any emergencies. The plane successfully made its landing, eighteen minutes early.
The shattered windshield was described as a "maintenance requirement" by an Indigo representative.
