Zubeen Garg death case Assam CM reports positive signals from Singapore

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the State administration has got "positive signals" from the Assamese expatriate living in Singapore to proceed with the investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg.

According to the Singapore police force, the Assamese cultural hero drowned on September 19 while swimming off an island.

The next day he was to play in the island nation at the North East India Festival.

"The Assamese community in Singapore has responded positively to our message.

A portion of the Assamese expatriate population has consented to assist with the probe, but I am not allowed to discuss specifics at this time," the Chief Minister said reporters.

He noted that cooperation from the Assamese community in Singapore, particularly those who were with Garg in his final hours, could shed light on the well known case.

The Chief Minister added that as part of their independent investigation, the Singapore police have issued questions to the families involved in collaboration with Assamese investigators.

Through the Ministry of Home Affairs, we have forwarded all necessary data and evidence to Singapore, including witness statements and forensic reports.

Singapore's Attorney General now has everything needed for the investigation," Mr. Sarma stated.

The circumstances behind Garg's death have been investigated by a Special Investigation Team, which is primarily composed of Criminal Investigation Department investigators.

In the case thus far, seven people have been taken into custody. They consist of Garg's cousin Sandipan Garg, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma, and festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta.
