APCB and Aaranyak launch Pollution Abating Schools in Guwahati

The "Pollution Abating Schools in Guwahati" project was started by the Assam Pollution Control Board (APCB) and Aaranyak with the goal of encouraging sustainable behaviors and environmental awareness among schoolchildren.

The APCB conference hall hosted the initiative's launch workshop on Friday. GK Misra, Member Secretary of the Assam Pollution Control Board, emphasized the importance of public involvement in environmental preservation and pollution reduction in his opening remarks. According to Misra, the outcomes of this pilot project will probably lead APCB to extend help to further schools.

"Pollution Abatement Schools in Guwahati" are a new initiative to reduce pollution in Guwahati City, he stated. The program is a component of a larger initiative by the Indian government's Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) to reduce pollution in the environment. Additionally, he acknowledged the students' curiosity and outlined a number of easy yet effective actions that young people may do to reduce pollution in their daily lives.

He formally introduced the program and said he was excited to work with Aaranyak on further environmental protection and education projects in the future.

"Aaranyak has been providing necessary guidance to the new generation of the NE region to usher in a new era of ecological security," stated Jayanta Kumar Pathak, Assistant Director of Aaranyak's Environment Education and Capacity Building (EECB) division, during a presentation about the initiative to reduce pollution.

In keeping with the Mission LiFE, Pathak also recognized Samagra Shiksha Assam's active support of Aaranyak's environmental and sustainability education program, which aims to include schoolchildren in environmental stewardship.

While outlining the comprehensive plan for Pollution Abatement Schools, Simanta Kalita, Senior Consultant at Aaranyak, also shared some of the most important results of a KAP study that was conducted among students on Pollution Abatement.
The Environment Education and Capacity Building Division (EECBD) of Aaranyak recently carried out the study at a few Guwahati schools.

In his welcome speech, Kanteswar Kalita, Senior Planning & Research Officer, APCB, emphasized the need of using experiential learning in everyday life to instill positive behavioral changes in children.

He valued Aaranyak's persistent efforts to develop responsible youth and encourage community involvement in order to spur group action and provide a long lasting impact on environmental protection and natural conservation. Students, instructors, researchers, and representatives from Dakshin Beltola High School, Aaranyak, and APCB attended the session.
