BJP plans strategy for 2026 Assam elections in Guwahati

BJP National General Secretary (Organization) B. L. Santhosh started a two day evaluation of the party's organisational readiness in Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the state headquarters, hosted a number of high level meetings.

According to party spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami, Santhosh met in person with state spokespersons, the media department, the media relations wing, and media convenors from different morchas around 6 p.m. on Thursday after arriving in Guwahati.

He examined the state of politics in Assam and offered advice on creating a positive public image for the party. Individual functionaries were also given responsibilities.

Later, starting at 8 p.m., Santhosh presided over a lengthy meeting with the party's IT and social media teams, which included conveners from every morcha.

Increasing digital outreach and efficiently communicating government accomplishments throughout the election campaign were the main topics of discussion.

Santhosh had a private review with state general secretaries on Friday morning, with state president Dilip Saikia and state general secretary (Organization) Rabindra Raju present.

He evaluated the organisational strength at the booth level and developed tactics aimed at winning every booth in the state, with a particular emphasis on the party's core 103 constituencies.

Santhosh presided over an all day meeting with the recently appointed coordinators and supervisors of each of the 126 Assembly seats at 10:30 a.m.

The discussion, which covered constituency specific plans and initiatives, was attended by senior party leaders, including Saikia, state chief Harish Dwivedi, and other high ranking office bearers.

In his closing remarks, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of aggressively promoting government initiatives and accomplishments.

He declared that the government will take more severe action against unlawful encroachers, especially Muslims of Bengali descent who were seizing government land, forest regions, tribal belts, and xatra land, as well as harder measures against polygamy, "love jihad," and "land jihad."

He added that, following negotiations with all relevant parties, the government hopes to reach a "just and acceptable" resolution about tribal status for six communities during the next Assembly session.

Santhosh was there when the BJP State Core Committee met at 5 p.m. Attendees included MPs Kamakhya Tasa, Dilip Saikia, Harish Dwivedi, Chief Minister Sarma, and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The meeting decided to run for 103 seats in the next election in coalition with allies. The party reaffirmed that the election campaign will center on fundamental ideological concerns and overall growth.

State President Dilip Saikia told the reporters following the talks that the BJP is hard at work getting ready for the 2026 elections and that he was optimistic that the "historic support" the party had earned in Bihar will translate to Assam.

According to Dilip Saikia, voters are likely to support the BJP's development focused policies under the slogan "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas." Saikia stated that the national leadership will be consulted before choosing the candidates for the next BTC elections.
