Harvard investigates Larry Summers ties to Epstein, reports university paper

A fresh investigation into former U.S. The University's newspaper claimed on Tuesday that Treasury Secretary Larry Summers had a "unusually close relationship for years" with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein following the release of fresh papers.

In a letter to The Harvard Crimson, Harvard spokesman Jonathan Swain said that "the University is conducting a review of information concerning individuals at Harvard included in the newly released Jeffrey Epstein documents to evaluate what actions may be warranted."

Days after President Donald Trump issued an order for the U.S. government, Summers, a former president of Harvard University and current professor there, informed the Crimson on Monday that he will withdraw from any public engagements.

Justice Department to look into the connections between him and other well known Democrats and Epstein. According to Trump, he was unrelated to Epstein's actions.

Last Wednesday, thousands of files pertaining to Epstein were made public by the House Oversight Committee, including records that revealed private correspondence between Summers and Epstein.

According to the Crimson, the university's probe would examine all other Harvard affiliates named in the House released records, including Summers wife and about a dozen other former and current Harvard affiliates.

According to the report, the investigation will look at any new evidence found in the files on Wednesday, including the hundreds of texts Summers and Epstein exchanged regarding women, politics, and Harvard related projects.

Reuters was unable to confirm the Crimson report right away. A request for comment was not immediately answered by Summers' office or Harvard.

On Tuesday, the Republican controlled U.S. Congress voted nearly unanimously to compel the release of DOJ documents pertaining to Epstein, a decision that Trump had fought for months before abandoning his objections.
