Guwahati is proud that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman officially opened the Guwahati Gateway River Terminal and the Brahmaputra Riverfront, two of Assam's most ambitious urban beautification projects, today.
The two projects, valued at more than ₹327 crore under the Smart City Mission, are expected to turn the Brahmaputra riverfront into a thriving cultural and tourism destination like to Mumbai's Gateway of India and Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Riverfront.
Along with open recreational areas, pedestrian plazas, and musical installations, the recently constructed 1.2 km long Guwahati Riverfront boasts seven elaborately built entrances that honor Assam's rich cultural legacy.
It also features a large, beautifully landscaped riverfront park, parking lots, public utilities, viewing decks, and places set aside for public events and cultural exhibits. From traditional themes and indigenous musical instruments to historical features, every facet of the design embodies Assamese identity.
The Gateway Inland Water Terminal, which will be the primary boarding point for nighttime river cruises, tourist cruises under the Sagarmala Tourism Circuit, and future Brahmaputra linked lines connecting Raj Bhavan and other historical monuments, complements the riverfront.
