After being seen on camera hurling trash off a speeding train, a Railways employee was fired that same day. The event provoked intense condemnation and rekindled worries about Indian Railways unsanitary conditions and inadequate garbage disposal procedures. The behavior was denounced by social media users, who described it as a reflection of a larger issue.
A man posted a video on Instagram claiming that on November 4, while traveling from Kanpur to Jaipur on the Sdah Aii Sf Exp (12987), he witnessed the railway pick up the waste bag from the bin on board and toss it onto the tracks from the moving train.
The passenger went on to say in the video's caption that he attempted to explain the issue and warn the employee that he shouldn't have done it, but was met with the response, "So what, should I have taken it home then?" The passengers claimed that his attempts were in vain because the man repeated the action after a while.
Railways responded that the employee had been fired as the video attracted attention. "To the Passenger, The North Western Railway stated, "Your complaint about trash being thrown on the track in train number 12987 from a moving train has been taken seriously, and contractual employee Sh Sanjay Singh has been removed with immediate effect." It also disclosed the application of counseling and a penalty, stating, "The contracting firm has been subject to a strict penalty.
Additionally, a counseling campaign has been launched with immediate effect to teach OBHS employees to dispose of trash exclusively at designated stations in order to stop such incidents from happening again. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we will keep working to enhance passenger services."
The public also responded to the video by denouncing the worker and their lack of civic duty. "Hum bahar feke to gandgi, ye feke to safai (We throw outside-it's garbage, they do it so it's cleanliness)" was one sarcastic response. "Action should be taken against them," another person stated.
