The representatives of the Rabha, Mising, and Tiwa groups, who have been requesting "constitutional status" for their various Autonomous Councils in Assam, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday in the nation's capital.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam who attended the conference, revealed the development in a post on his official 'X' handle.
The Chief Minister emphasized how comforting and uplifting the Home Minister's promise to choose an interlocutor and start institutional engagement is.
"The Rabha, Mising, and Tiwa groups have long sought constitutional status for their own Autonomous Councils, and I sincerely thank the Hon'ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah for meeting with their delegations.
It is very comforting and heartwarming that the Home Minister promised to choose an interlocutor and start an institutional engagement.
The 'X' post stated, "It reflects the Government of India's commitment to inclusive governance, dialogue, and the protection of Assam's indigenous communities' constitutional aspirations."
Shah also went to 'X' and said that he had heard the Rabha, Mising, and Tiwa communities' demands and that their sincere worries would be taken care of. "In the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, I met with delegations from the Assamese Rabha, Mising, and Tiwa groups.
Listened to their requests and gave them the assurance that their sincere worries would be taken care of. The 'X' article stated, "The Ministry of Home Affairs will soon appoint a senior official to work towards an amicable and lasting solution."

Tribal families from the Garo, Rabha, Bodo, and Karbi communities who live in restricted forest regions, such as Lakhra, Bondapara, Kulshi, Loharghat, Bamunigaon, Boko, and Singra, have been included in the project, according to a release.
