A Rs 250 crore funding plan for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) under the State-Owned Priority Development Fund (Rural) for 2025-2026 has been approved by the Assam Cabinet.

Infrastructure, rural livelihoods, and socioeconomic activities throughout the BTC region a strategically significant and delicate area of Assam are anticipated to benefit from the funding.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over a Council of Ministers meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan where the decision was made.

The government's commitment to maintaining the peace dividend under the Bodoland Territorial Region deal is reflected in the funds, according to officials, which would help rural infrastructure projects, increase connectivity, boost civic amenities, and promote public service delivery in BTC areas.

The Cabinet stated that the region, which has seen tremendous development in recent years, needs targeted financial help for equitable growth.

Under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891, the Cabinet authorized the designation of two wetlands in the Goalpara district as Proposed Reserved Forests.

To preserve biodiversity in these environmentally delicate locations, Kumari Beel (270 hectares) and Dhamar Beel (337 hectares) will be safeguarded.

Simu Das, a member of the Indian women's blind cricket team that won the Women's T20 Blind World Cup, was appointed by the government as a Physical Instructor under the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare in recognition of her athletic accomplishments.
