On September 19, Garg passed away while swimming in the ocean off a Singaporean island. In relation to his death, seven persons were taken into custody, including his manager Siddharth Sharma and event planner Shyamkanu Mahanta.
After recording over 300 people's statements, we are nearly finished with the investigation. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, Mr. Gupta told reporters in Guwahati, "We will file the charge sheet of the case on December 12."
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, had earlier stated that the charge sheet was being submitted by the SIT. According to the SIT, between 3,000 and 3,500 documents need to be signed and photocopied.
We also spoke with the Advocate General about (submitting the charge sheet)," he added. He informed the 126-member State Assembly on November 25 that Garg had been slain by one individual, and the others had assisted. It was "plain and simple murder," he claimed.
"They [opposition parties] assaulted me, questioning how I could determine that Zubeen had been murdered. This was murder, according to the court record. Four or five people have been charged with murder, the Chief Minister stated.
He said, without providing specifics, that Garg was the target of a significant plot prior to the COVID-19 epidemic and suggested that his demise was related to financial dealings.
"We possess the proof. In order to prevent anyone from escaping, I instructed the SIT to file the charge sheet on the murder case first and then broaden the investigation," he stated. When Garg traveled to Singapore to play at the 4th North East India Festival, which Mr. Mahanta had arranged, his health was not the finest.
His cousin Sandipan Garg, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, personal security guards Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and singer Amritprabha Mahanta are among the other people detained in relation to Garg's death. All of them are under judicial detention.
