China accuses US of hampering India relations

According to Reuters, China accused the US on Thursday of misrepresenting its defense strategy in an effort to thwart any improvement in relations between China and India.

According to Reuters, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry, was answering a question at a routine press briefing about whether Beijing could use the recent reduction in hostilities with India along disputed border regions to stop ties between the US and India from strengthening.

According to Lin, China takes a long-term, strategic approach to its relationship with India. "We object to any country passing judgment about this issue," he continued, adding that the boundary dispute is still solely between China and India.

China is likely to use the de-escalation of tensions along the Line of Actual Control with India to stabilize bilateral relations and prevent deeper links between Washington and New Delhi, according to a report released on Tuesday by the US Department of War.

Indian leadership declared an agreement with China in October 2024, according to the department's annual report to Congress, "Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China 2025," which was made public on Tuesday.

The deal, which was revealed two days prior to a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fringes of the BRICS Summit, was reportedly intended to disengage from the remaining standoff sites along the Line of Actual Control.

Monthly high-level interactions between the two nations began with the Xi-Modi meeting. According to the report, during these meetings, the two sides talked about border management and potential future developments in their bilateral relationship, such as the restoration of direct flights, the facilitation of visas, and interactions between academics and journalists.

"China likely wants to take advantage of less tension along the LAC to stabilize bilateral relations and stop US-India ties from getting stronger, but India presumably still has doubts about China's intentions and behavior. The bilateral connection is most likely limited by ongoing mistrust and other annoyances, according to the survey.
