Midnight boarding, ten hours on plastic chairs, and heebie-jeebies before the game. As thousands of people were left stranded around India due to IndiGo cancellations and delays, Mumbai City FC's run to a Super Cup semi-final became the face of a national air travel catastrophe.
The former ISL winners arrived in Goa on Thursday morning following the cancellation of their flight on Wednesday afternoon due to extensive disruptions.
"The boys stuck together after nearly ten hours at the airport, endless lines, and enough chaos to test anyone's match-day patience," the team wrote on social media.
They were by no means alone. Over 25 IndiGo flights to Goa were delayed, and at least 14 were canceled. Airfares skyrocketed to worldwide levels, terminals in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Lucknow, and Bhubaneswar were overrun with stranded passengers, and rescheduled departures abruptly collapsed.
