Due to heavy fog, Delhi airport warned travelers on Tuesday that flight operations may continue to be disrupted for some arrivals and departures.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) advised travelers to verify with airlines for up-to-date flight itineraries in a post on X. Although flight operations are gradually improving, some departures and arrivals may continue to experience difficulties. Please get in touch with your airline immediately for precise and timely updates, according to IGIA.
It also stated, "Our staff is available across terminals to assist passengers and provide necessary support." According to airport officials, 228 flights 131 departures and 97 arrivals were canceled and five were diverted to neighbouring airports on Monday due to poor visibility.
While some carriers, such as IndiGo, did not disclose the precise number of cancellations or delays, Air India reported that it had to cancel about 40 flights because of poor visibility.
"Operations at Delhi and other airports across northern India have been severely impacted by low visibility (below minima), due to dense fog," IndiGo stated, adding that certain flights may experience delays or preemptive cancellations in order to prioritize safety.
Additionally, Air India emphasized that the cancellations were made in the interest of passenger safety and stated that operations would resume as soon as conditions improved. The busiest airport in the nation, Delhi, handles about 1,300 airplane operations every day.
