Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones for the new Kokrajhar-Gelephu railway link and the 32-kilometer elevated corridor through Kaziranga National Park in January.
The 85.675 km elevated corridor project in the Kaliabor-Numaligarh stretch, which will cost Rs 6957 crore, was authorized by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The project is now in the tendering phase.
The first rail connection between India and Bhutan will be the 69-kilometer projected railway line between Kokrajhar and Gelephu.
Speaking to the crowd at the opening of the new airport terminal, Sarma announced the development of an aero hub on 60 acres of land close to the Guwahati airport. He stated, "It will house hotels, convention centers, pilot training simulation centers, etc."
The PM is expected to return in February to lay the foundation stone for the greenfield airport at Dolu in Cachar and to officially open the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge.
"An additional terminal at the Guwahati airport is planned for 2032, according to the Civil Aviation Ministry. However, given the State's current rate of development, I think the need might materialize as early as 2028," Sarma stated.
